The child, now 6 years of age, suffered brain damage and has significant needs related to self-care, mobility and transportation to school. She has limited physical abilities, requires an activity chair and is dependent on caregivers for all transfers. She is fed through a G-tube.
The plaintiff claimed that given the sudden maternal cardiac arrest, the standard of care required the defendant to attempt resuscitation of the mother, and if after four minutes’ time if the mother is not effectively resuscitated, a crash bedside cesarean section was required.
